5 Common Mistakes That Can Ruin Your Leather Jacket

1- Machine Wash Your Leather Jacket:

Never ever, you should put your leather jacket in the washing machine, as this could seriously damage it.

We remind you that water is the enemy of leather.

Concerning imitation leather, the risk is the same since the movements of the drum can crack the plastic.

2- Using Shoe Polish:

Your leather must “breathe”.

Applying shoe polish will clog the pores of the leather and therefore eventually crack your jacket.

We therefore reserve the shoe polish and nothing else!

3- Rub a leather jacket with an abrasive material:

We are all tempted to scratch a stain with our fingernails or an abrasive sponge.

This is a bad idea, because it is the guarantee to leave big marks and scratches.

The rule is simple: always use soft rags or paper towels.

4- Iron a leather jacket:

Here again, big mistake. Heat should also be avoided at the risk of drying out and cracking your leather. No iron therefore no dryer or other.

5- Put your leather jacket anywhere:

You don’t necessarily think about it, but it is better to put your jacket on a hanger in a well-ventilated place at room temperature.

Avoid radiators, fireplaces or any other source of heat.

To properly maintain your leather jacket, follow the 4 golden rules :

  • Care
  • Waterproofing
  • Cleaning
  • Hydration
